One of the biggest misconceptions in the church today is that worship is music. It is not limited to two fast songs and two slow songs on Sunday mornings. It is not the half-hour of music that happens before Pastor gets up to preach.
Worship is intentional
Worship is authentic.
Worship is life-giving.
Worship is a way of life.
The songs we write. The canvases we paint. The art we create. The people we spend time with. The things we spend money on.
John 4:23 says,
"But the time is coming -- it has in fact come -- when what you're called will not matter and where you go to worship will not matter. 'It's who you are and the way you live that count before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth. That's the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before him in their worship.'"
Although music may be the most prominent way to worship God, by no means does it have exclusive rights to it. If Christ describes true worship in the manner of honoring God and showing him our affection and attention in a way that is genuinely transparent, then we have to be willing to admit that there are more ways to worship God than we might think.
Scripture provides some nice groundwork, but if you are willing to accept worship in the manner in which Christ defined it, you'll realize there are so many amazing and fulfilling ways to worship God. So try something new this week. Worship God in a way you never have before. Write a prayer, sing your favorite psalm, draw or paint something that's on your heart. Give yourself to God and worship him in a way that is genuinely transparent.
