Fasting 101

2008 at 08:25 AM Posted by Pastor Matt

Pastor John has called for a 14 day fast leading up to one of, if not the most important Presidential Election(s) ever. This Sunday's message is "Fasting 101" We have had several people in the last couple months that have had a lot of questions concerning the spiritual act of fasting. I encourage you to find something to fast, put that time into studying God's Word and spending extra time in prayer for things you need direction for but also for the direction and the leadership of our country. Here is just some food for thought from my message this Sunday concerning fasting:

Fasting is not:

  • A method of "twisting God's arm
  • A method of getting man's approval
  • A quick fix for a spiritual problem

    What fasting is:
  • A Biblical practice
  • A calling from God
  • An exercise to bring other drives into submission
  • A time of extended and intense prayer and study in the Word
  • Setting aside natural & physical desires for spiritual growth                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           2 Chronicles 7:14                                                                                                                                                                                                14 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Be Blessed!                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Pastor Matt

    Praise the Lord!

Just a short note on fasting.  We had a mentor in Albuquerque, NM, who was hypoglycemic :( and could not fast food (no pun intended)...so what she did was fast watching TV for the duration of the fast.  In essence, fasting is to be called by God, and you can do it in any number of ways.  Fasting could be, giving up something you always do; doing something you never do; giving up food, tv, movies, drinking only water (very important on a total fast), drinking juice, etc...something you have sought the Lord about and He has given you a clear direction to proceed.  Don’t feel that because you may have a physical condition that you can not participate in this fast in some way.

Be Blessed and encouraged with the Shalom of Yeshua,

I know this is a little late, but our church will (probably) be calling a church-wide fast for the new year. Now, more than ever in this country we need God… more so to bring us back to Him in humility.

Keep us posted on the Year-end fast.  This is a good time to “purge”:  get rid of the old stuff and start fresh!  You will find frequent fasts mentioned in the Bible..."some things only come with fasting and prayer”.  This new year and Christmas season can be very special, if we tune ourselves in to what the Lord has for us all.  Be Abundantly Blessed!
